Why BankBird?
I pay for almost everything digitally. Convenient — but it also means I rarely stop to think about what's actually going out. One evening I asked myself: how much am I actually spending on streaming services? And how much do I burn through on groceries every month?
I opened my banking app, scrolled through hundreds of transactions and had no idea where to start. No overview, no structure, no insight. Just an endless list of numbers.
Existing tools felt either too heavy (built for businesses) or too shallow (just a little chart). I wanted something that actually works for someone like me: someone who doesn't track every cent but does want to understand where the money goes.
So I built BankBird.
Why open-source?
If it works for me, it might work for you too. And if you add something I hadn't thought of, the whole thing gets even better — for both of us.
I believe financial clarity should be available to everyone, not just those who can afford a pricey subscription. BankBird is free, your data stays yours, and the code is open for anyone to see.
Missing a bank, a feature, or have an idea? Open an issue on GitHub or build it yourself — that's exactly the point.
I'm Michael — maker of digital things that genuinely matter. Through Aivion Studios I work on creative platforms, visuals, music and interactive experiences. BankBird started as a personal project and became too good to keep to myself.
